Website and search engines
In spite of building a great web site that is easier to navigate, is very pleasing to the eye and builds a great amount of trustworthiness in its visitors, it is not possible to generate the adequate amount of traffic and sales if your web site is not search engine friendly.
Recent studies and research about search engine activity in the UK demonstrate that 78% of the activity results from Google. Further the study reveals that about 98% of the surfers give up after the first 3 to 5 pages of the search engine results. There are approximately around 8 billion pages in Google and hence, you should be prepared to face fierce competition. So the key to achieve successful traffic generation is to get your web site listed in the first 5 pages of the popular search engines.
One of the most important things that you should look for while designing your web pages is the pictures and graphics that feature on your web page. When you hover your mouse over any picture it displays an “alt” value. Search engines do not read graphics or pictures and they recognize only this alt value. Hence you should ensure that the description of the picture or graphic possesses an alt value that is specific to the product or service displayed by the graphic or picture. Similarly, flash movies and frames are almost impossible for search engines to read and not having them as part of your web page would mean that your web page becomes accessible to more number of human visitors who use talking browsers and have turned their images off.
One important thing to keep in mind is to be aware that the potential customers that are visiting your web site have a deep knowledge about your product or service that you offer through your web site. Hence, the secret is to design a web page that caters to the needs of a wide variety of potential customers. These types of tricks of the trade can be learnt over a period of time as your knowledge and experience grows. However learning such tricks is not as easy as learning to include “Meta Tags”. Meta tags have almost become redundant these days and most search engines or at least the most popular search engines do not recognize the meta tags any more.
However, in case you are willing to learn all the knacks of your trade in order to make a successful business online, then you will learn all the recent rules and wish that they do not undergo a change at least for the next few months.
